Welcome to Wayne

About Wayne

Located in the heart of the Main Line, Wayne is a popular suburb of Philadelphia with a lively main street and beautiful homes. Wayne was originally named “Louella” after the founder J. Henry Askin’s daughters, Louisa and Ella. Askin built a famous historical 80-room mansion which was later purchased to form a larger development called Wayne Estate, named after General Anthony Wayne. Several prominent homes and a hotel were then built around Wayne Estate. The name stuck. By the turn of the twentieth century, Wayne became a thriving community and a popular getaway for wealthy Philadelphia businessmen.
Wayne is technically located in Delaware, Chester, and Montgomery counties (in parts of Radnor, Tredyffrin, and Upper Merion townships, respectively).  Wayne centers on the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and Wayne Avenue. Served by Tredyffrin-Easttown School District and Radnor School District, residents enjoy strong public school systems and a variety of private school options including Valley Forge Military Academy. An affluent area, a traditional single-family home tends to range from $400-800,000. More affordable townhomes, condos, and fixer-uppers are available as well.
Today, Wayne is consistently recognized for being a wonderful place to live and raise a family. There is something for everybody in Wayne, with plenty of recreational activities and parks, wonderful dining, and trendy shopping.
