The Habit of Art (Encore)

Encore broadcast in honor of the National Theatre's 50th anniversary

(NR) Written by Alan Bennett (The History Boys)
d. Nicholas Hytner
Starring Richard Griffiths
Performed at London's National Theatre

General Admission: $20
BMFI Members: $18
Students with ID: $10

Benjamin Britten seeks advice from his former collaborator and friend, W. H. Auden, as he composes the opera Death in Venice. During this imagined meeting, their first in twenty-five years, they are observed and interrupted by, amongst others, their future biographer and a young man from the local bus station.

This play from Alan Bennett (The History Boys) is as much about the theatre as it is about poetry or music. It looks at the unsettling desires of two difficult men, and at the ethics of biography. It reflects on growing old, on creativity and inspiration, and on persisting when all passion’s spent: ultimately, on the habit of art.

Suitable for mature audiences only.

In honor of the National Theatre's 50th anniversary, BMFI is showing encores of their most popular productions.
